I noticed liz holm's wonderful painting on her blog and went to windows to the words(http://windowstothewords.blogspot.com/ )and noticed the challenge was over.. darn!!!
but, also noticed that liz had offered this photo for the challenge.. so i wrote her and asked if i could have permission to use this photo for noras and my wishy washy challenge, on Painting Friends!! she was a sweetie and said yes!! nora and i have been exploring portraits. we started with young children and are working our way up... we wanted to try wrinkles this week..... this ladys sweet face is stunning.. and has the perfect balance of light and shadow.. so we decided to go for the gusto and put the colors in we see and see what happens..?? we both seem to have difficulties taking risks with color.. i haven't seen her's yet, the unveiling is tomorrow.. but i am really pleased how this turned out... i think the only thing i would change, is maybe her hair.. i forget to misket a lots of strands for highlights.. so went in after and used the exacto blade to give a few more highlights...and it left some dots...ARGGGGHHHHHH!!! but other that that, had a blast!!

Woo Hoo, Cindi, you are progressing so much with your portraiture. Love the way you painted the eyes and wrinkles especially.

thanks again!!
Oh My Goodness Cindi! She's great...love the contrast of the aged wrinkled face with the soft scarf and clothing. You captured her. Applause!
thanks rosemary.. i sure had fun trying.. i did go back and add a bit if dark to her right eye.. seemed a bit too light when i got her in here.. thanks so much for stopping by and the nice comments!!
Well done! Nice skintones and you got the wrinkles right without overdoing it...and the white hair. I like all the colors you used.
Cindi, looking good! Actually I start my workshops with wrinkled faces first, 'cause they are actually easier than children! What ever order you work in, just doing it is the real secret to success.
thank you both for stopping in...
rhonda was i thinking your were dropping by for a game of wii..but heard you hurt yourself playing!! sorry.. it does give a great workout.. but its so easy to over do.. cause its fun!!

Cindi, Thanks for your kind comment on my blog! I am glad to have found yours. Lovely portrait.
Hello Cindi, it's a long time ago, but I saw your blog.
Beautiful paintings, and especially this portrait.
wow joanna.. thank you so much for stopping by and the nice comments.. is so good to hear from you!!
Beautiful work, Cindi! I especially love your regulation of hard and soft edges in this--that the eye closest to use is 'sharper,' and the other softens into the shadows. Love the fluid indication of the scarf and patterns in her clothing. gorgeous skin tones. Expertly handled. Brava!
liz.. you are such a sweetie for letting me use this photo.. i had so much fun trying to get things in the right place.. really enjoyed doing this.. thanks for stopping by and also again, for the use of the photo...
This is beautiful. I saw it on
Windows to the Words. I also like your zebra paintings, they are wonderful technically, but, the second one made laugh, too!
